How a residential project works

  1. Walkthrough and load check

We start at the house: what you want to add or fix, the age and condition of the panel and wiring, and the capacity of your electrical service. For larger additions like a generator, EV charger or finished basement, we run a load calculation so the plan fits what your service can carry.

  2. A clear written scope

You get a written proposal that spells out the work, the equipment and what is and isn’t included, so there are no surprises once the walls are open.

  3. Permits and scheduling

We file the electrical permit with your town or village and schedule the work around your household. When PSEG Long Island needs to disconnect or reconnect service, as with a panel or service upgrade, we coordinate that appointment.

  4. Installation and inspection

Our licensed electricians install to NEC and local code, keep the work area clean and meet the inspector. Before we leave, we walk you through the finished work.

Electrical work in Long Island homes

Much of Long Island’s housing was built between the 1940s and 1970s, with electrical systems sized for far fewer appliances than a household runs today. Common issues we find include 60- and 100-amp services with no room left, two-prong outlets without grounding, and older panels that are due for replacement. Some homes built from the mid-1960s to the mid-1970s also have aluminum branch wiring that needs attention.

Newer and custom homes bring different demands: whole-home generators, EV chargers, heat pumps, pools and outdoor living spaces, and lighting and smart controls planned room by room. Whether the house is old or new, we size the work to how you live in it now and leave room for what you’re likely to add next.

New circuits, panel and service upgrades, generators and EV chargers generally require an electrical permit and inspection, and the requirements vary by town and village. As licensed Master Electricians, we handle that paperwork for you.

Questions

Residential electrical services FAQ

Do I need a permit for electrical work in my home?

Most new electrical work, including new circuits, panel and service upgrades, generators and EV chargers, requires an electrical permit and inspection. Requirements vary by town and village. We file the permit and meet the inspector as part of the job.

How do I know if my electrical panel needs an upgrade?

Warning signs include breakers that trip often, lights that dim when large appliances start, a panel that feels warm, rust or scorch marks, and a service too small for planned additions like an EV charger or central air. We can inspect the panel and run a load calculation to tell you whether you need an upgrade or a smaller fix will do.

Which generator brands do you install?

We install and service whole-home standby generators, including Generac and Kohler systems. We help you size the generator for what you want to keep running, handle the transfer switch and panel integration, and file the permits.

Can you install an EV charger at my house?

Yes. We install wall-mounted Level 2 chargers, including Tesla and ChargePoint units, along with any circuit or panel work the charger needs.

Do you work on older homes with outdated or aluminum wiring?

Yes. We regularly work in older Long Island homes, replacing outdated panels and ungrounded outlets and correcting code issues. If your home has aluminum branch wiring, we can assess it and explain the repair options the Consumer Product Safety Commission recognizes.
